Lark Distillery was not the first distillery to operate in Tasmania, but you have to go back 153 years to find their nearest predecessor.

Tasmania grows some of the world’s best brewing barley, the highlands abound in rich peat, the water is soft, clean and pure, and the temperature and humidity create a climate that is well suited to the production and maturation of fine malt whisky in the same manner Scotch malt whisky is produced.

August 2008 "RUM ISLAND" NEW RELEASE !

Lark Distillery is proud to announce the release of Australia's newest Spirit "Rum Island" Tasmania's first commercially produced Rum Spirit since 1839.

Made from 100% Australian sugar cane molasses, slow fermented and double distilled in our small batch, 500lt copper pot still'-Miss Jane'

Ross Dinsmoor, Lark Distillery's global sales manager, and the driving force behind Rum Island says, 'This Rum Spirit is incredibly smooth  with a light clean finish and is already one of the most popular additions to our range.         

The name 'Rum Island' comes from a small isle located in Tasmania's north eastern Furneaux Group. Historic site of the 1797 shipwreck 'Sydney Cove', and the subsequent tale of survival, adventure, discovery and tragedy. Referred to as "The Greatest Survival Trek in Australian History"-an introduction to Rum Island and the Captain and crew of the ship Sydney Cove can be found on these web links:

June 2008 Cradle Mountain Tasting's At The Top

Lark Distillery's brand new release of new Pepper berry Vodka was extremely well received by an enthusiastic gathering at Cradle Mountain Lodge, even the kitchen got into the act with a Pepper berry Vodka and ginger sorbet.

June 2008 Award for Pepper berry Gin

Lark was awarded a bronze medal at the International Wine and Spirits Competition in London for the Pepper berry Gin, and just so you know, there were no silver or gold medals awarded this year.

 

12/11/2007 More accolades for Lark Single Malt!

The recently launched Jim Murray's Whisky Bible for 2008 scored our Distiller's Selection Single Malt Whisky a massive 91 points. Describing the finish, Jim says that its "so long your tongue licks grooves into the roof of your mouth. 24/10/2007 Lark Australia's most awarded distillery

Lark was awarded 4 medals at the International Wine and Spirits Competition in London, making it the most awarded Australian Distillery at the 2007 show. Congratulations to the team. Lark's Cask Strength Single Cask whisky achieved a best in class award and our whisky liqueur, Slainté won a silver medal in the international whisky liqueur category.
